The life of a Christian may be truly described as the life of God produced and maintained in a human being. God (we are told) created man in His own image; in the image of God created He him. The life of a christian, if a true and right life, is the reproduction of the image of God in a fallen and corrupt creature. What a privilege to be invited to partake of this life! What a weighty thought for each of us: "God reproducing Himself in my soul." The Saviour says of himself as man: I am in the Father, and the Father in me; and through Christ this is equally true of us, if we, as new creatures in Him, are members of His body, of His flesh, and of His bones; for whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. God subjects His infinity to the limitations of our poor humanity. If we are really what we profess, Catholic Christians, we carry God about with and in us, in our houses, chambers, streets, as well as in our churches. What a motive to watchfulness! what encouragement to faith and hope, and love of God, and of our neighbour; to the cherishing of the Holy Spirit; for hereby we know that He abideth in us by the Spirit which He hath given us, and vie have received the Spirit of God, that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
